Kota Kinabalu, Borneo, Malaysia

We flew Air Asia to Kota Kinabalu from Macau. It takes us 1 hour from Shekou, Shenzhen, China to the Island of Macau. We then drove up to the Rasa Ria Shangri La Beach Resort and did little for 6 days. The highlights were the Orangutangs in the Nature Reserve next to the resort, the Mt Bike ride where I surprised a Barking Deer, the sailing and the resort it's self. It is one of the best resorts we have been to. The staff were absolutley fantastic. The food was fabulous and the garden/seaview room with large balcony was very very nice.

View from our room. The resort has 3km of private beach.

Driving range.

River cruise. Crab fishing.

Riverside real estate!

These guys spend hours bathing in the salt water river.

These little darlings were so cute. They are being repatriated to the wild and come to this reserve by the resort which is a transition station until they are old enough to go across the Island to a larger santuary. We could see them from our room also!

This was taken on 8x zoom from our room.

China 2008

Ping-an. We watched the spectacle rather than being the spectacle.

The bambo river rafts.

We flew out at 6.00am. It was just on dawn. Yangshou.

Ping-an village.

The cormorant fisher.

The terraces covered the entire valley. This rice has been cut and is drying before being hand threshed.

The rice harvest was in full swing. This guy has his knife in the cane basket.

Ping-an village has no road access. Walk or be carried. We walked.

No tourists here at all. Long-ji village.

No machines whatsoever

500 year old terraces. Loking across to Long-ji.
Rice Terraces at Ping-an.

The Desert Fox - White Desert - Egypt

We camped under the stars. During our meal time (11.00pm!) the fox came creeping
into the camp and snatched away the chicken bones.

Galabeya Night

Our tech guy doesn't have enough to do!

Sol Y Mar el Marsa Beach West of Alexandria, Egypt

View from room. This resort is about 3 hrs. drive west of Alexandria, past El-Alamein. It was built 2 years ago and caters for mostly Italians who fly direct into Al Marsa airport from Italy. During the cooler winter months it is empty of guests. 12 of us went in Sept. We were the only guests. Fantastic beach. Look at the water. Unlike the Alexandria beaches which are covered in garbage this beach is pristine at the moment. There are no other buildings for many miles.
